[SHIN&KIM News]  SHIN & KIM Announces International Dispute Resolution Practice Group
[2009-11-11]

Shin & Kim is pleased to announce the formal launch of our International Dispute Resolution Practice Group (IDR PG).  Shin & Kim has represented its clients in international arbitrations in jurisdictions all over the world and under the rules of all major arbitral institutions.  As arbitration has become the preferred method for resolving international commercial disputes, Shin & Kim has recognized the need for specialized practitioners in this field.

To that end, partner Beomsu Kim has focused on developing extensive expertise in international arbitration and cross-border dispute resolution.  He has represented a diverse group of Korean and foreign clients in arbitrations spanning multiple jurisdictions and under the rules of the ICC, the Singapore International Arbitration Centre (SIAC) and the Korean Commercial Arbitration Board (KCAB), where he has also been appointed as an arbitrator.  Mr. Kim is a Director of the Korean Council for International Arbitration, and will serve as the Chair of Shin & Kim¡¯s International Dispute Resolution Practice Group.

In addition, Shin & Kim has hired Mr. Benjamin F. Hughes, formerly a senior associate in international arbitration at Shearman & Sterling, to serve as Co-Chair of the IDR PG.  Mr. Hughes is an arbitrator of the KCAB, and previously served as adjunct professor at the Judicial Research and Training Institute of the Supreme Court of Korea.  He has appeared as counsel in arbitrations in Asia, Europe and the United States under the rules of all major arbitral institutions.  Prior to joining Shin & Kim, Mr. Hughes gained extensive experience in international arbitration and federal appellate litigation at Shearman & Sterling.

Mr. Kim and Mr. Hughes will be joined by other Korean and foreign attorneys with experience in international arbitration and cross-border litigation.  They hope to build upon their substantial experience in order to better serve Shin & Kim¡¯s current and future clients in resolving international disputes.  For further information, please click here or contact Beomsu Kim (bskim@shinkim.com) or Benjamin Hughes (bhughes@shinkim.com).
