On November 15, 2019, for the first time in the “ALB Korea Law Awards” history, Shin & Kim tied for the first place, receiving eight awards.
Specifically, Shin & Kim received 2 “Law Firm of the Year” awards - in Technology, Media and Telecommunications (”TMT”) as well as in Construction and Real Estate.
Our firm also received “Deal of the Year” awards in four areas - M&A, Debt Market, Project Finance, and Real Estate. Shin & Kim was the only law firm to have two partners taking home top prizes in the individual category.
Mr. Tong-Gun LEE was named the “Deal Maker of the Year,” while Ms. Helen PARK was recognized as the “Woman Lawyer of the Year.”
Shin & Kim has again cemented its position as the top law firm for real estate-related matters by winning the “Real Estate Deal of the Year” category for four consecutive years. Among our team's most notable work include the successful closing of the biggest real estate transaction in 2018, the development project of the old Renaissance Hotel by IGIS Asset Management (KRW 2 trillion).
Our market-leading M&A team also won the “M&A Deal of the Year.” Among our succcesses include advising on the third largest M&A deal of Korean companies to date (KRW 3.5 trillion) - acquisition of the U.S. silicon manufacturer Momentive by SJL Partners, KCC and Wonik Consortium. Further, Shin & Kim continues to be recognized for its finance prowess, winning “Project Finance Deal of the Year” award (for the oil refinery modernization project of the Bahrain Petroleum Company (Bapco)), and “Debt Market Deal of the Year” award (for Hyundai Capital’s issuance of global medium term note).
Top M&A partner Tong-Gun Lee took home the prestigious “Deal Maker of the Year” award, which is given to the top-performing lawyer for both M&A advisory services and also disputes related to management rights. Mr. Lee continues to be recognized for his expertise, experience, and successful results. Among his recent successes include several large cross-border acquisitions, such as the acquisition of the silicon manufacturer Momentive Performance Materials by the KCC Consortium (KRW 3.5 trillion), and the acquisition of the U.S. frozen food processor, Schwan's Company, by the CJ Group (KRW 2 trillion).
Top Senior Foreign Attorney and banking & finance expert, Helen Park, was named the “Woman Lawyer of the Year.” Ms. Park was also recognized as one of the global female leaders of the year by IFLR 1000, one of the world's leading legal magazines, evidencing her sought-after expertise and leadership in the market.
