- Appointment as Head of the Criminal Defense Practice Group, effective September 1.

Former Prosecutor General Mooil Moon (18th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), who had previously stepped back from frontline cases while leading the Compliance Center, is returning to the forefront by taking on the role of head of the Criminal Practice Group at Shin & Kim. This move is viewed as a strategic initiative to bolster the firm’s criminal law practice.

According to legal sources on the 4th, Mooil Moon, a senior partner at Shin & Kim, has assumed the role of head of the Criminal Practice Group in conjunction with his position as head of the Compliance Center, effective from the 1st.

The Shin & Kim Criminal Defense Practice Group includes the Domestic Criminal Defense Team, International Criminal Defense Team, and Police Investigation Defense Team, with around 50 veteran lawyers who have backgrounds as former police officers, prosecutors, and judges. The head of the Professional Group oversees all criminal cases and administrative matters within the group.

Shin & Kim has strengthened its criminal litigation capabilities by recruiting Mooil Moon in August 2022, following the earlier addition of Jin-tae Kim, the 40th Prosecutor General (14th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute).

The Shin & Kim Criminal Defense Professional Group specializes in white-collar crimes, including embezzlement and breach of trust, as well as criminal matters related to intellectual property rights, such as technology leaks. The group also handles securities fraud, virtual asset crimes, violations of fair trade laws, and cases under the Serious Accidents Punishment Act and the Occupational Safety and Health Act.
