Shin & Kim LLC and its nonprofit corporation, Nanum & Ieum (meaning "sharing and connecting" in Korean; chaired by Il-Young Min), held the inauguration ceremony for the second term of the Public Interest Advocacy Center on May 29.

Shin & Kim LLC established the Public Interest Advocacy Center in collaboration with the nonprofit corporation Nanum & Ieum to utilize the firm's legal expertise and human resources to carry out activities that protect the rights and interests of socially vulnerable groups and minorities, and promote social justice and human rights. During the first term, over 70 lawyers and tax accountants led public interest activities directly. The second term has grown significantly and includes over 90 members.

The Center is divided into three groups: (i) North Korean defectors and immigrants, (ii) Children, youth, and women, and (iii) People with disabilities and the general public interest. These groups conduct public interest litigation and provide legal consultations and on-demand legal counseling.

Starting in the second term, lawyers will have more opportunities to engage in public interest activities directly at institutions. These activities include: (i) visiting the Seoul Youth Center to provide free legal consultations for young adults who are not supported by existing systems; (ii) visiting childcare facilities, group homes, and family placement support centers nationwide to provide legal education for young adults transitioning to independence; and (iii) visiting the Association for the Visually Impaired to provide legal consultations for visually impaired individuals. Through these efforts, those in need can receive consultations from Public Interest Advocacy Center experts without incurring consultation or representation fees.

The Public Interest Advocacy Center will continue to expand its legal support services by providing legal consultations and advice, offering legal education, and collaborating with various institutions.
