Shin & Kim LLC (“Shin & Kim”), headed by senior managing partner Jong-Han Oh, received both the “Legal Advisory Grand Prize” and the “Public Interest Grand Prize” at the 8th Korea Legal Awards held at The Plaza Hotel Seoul on December 11, 2025. This recognition reflects both Shin & Kim’s accumulated depth of expertise and its efforts to promote the public interest and social values.
Legal Advisory Grand Prize for successful advisory services for the IPO of the Indian subsidiary of LG Electronics
Shin & Kim was awarded the Legal Advisory Grand Prize in recognition of its successful advisory support for the IPO of LG Electronics India Limited on the Indian stock market, serving as the sole domestic law firm advisor for a landmark transaction with a market capitalization of approximately KRW 12 trillion.
This IPO attracted global attention with the second-largest subscription amount in Indian IPO history. To resolve the complex issues arising from different regulations and conflicting disclosure and offering procedures between the Korean and Indian capital markets, Shin & Kim led negotiations with Indian financial regulators based on a sophisticated interpretation of Korean capital market laws, successfully guiding the IPO of LG Electronics’ Indian subsidiary.
Attorney Yong-Jin Park remarked, “This transaction sets a new benchmark in advising domestic companies on overseas listings,” adding, “I wish to share this honor with my team members who collaborated to find the optimal solution despite the complex regulatory environment, and to extend my special thanks to Attorney Tong-Gun Lee who provided this opportunity, and foreign Attorney Joo-Yeon Park and Attorney Hyeong-Eun Yoon who worked tirelessly day and night.”

Public Interest Grand Prize for removing the 5-character name limit for children of a Korean father and a foreign mother
Shin & Kim’s Public Interest Legal Support Center was awarded the Public Interest Grand Prize in recognition of its efforts to bring attention to the Supreme Court’s problematic family relations registration regulations that had restricted name registration for children of multicultural families, and for making a substantial change within a short period through systemic reform rather than litigation.
Attorney Kwang-Jae Kim of Shin & Kim fostered social consensus by contributing a column that the five-character limit on names, applicable only to children born to a Korean father and a foreign mother—unlike children born to a foreign father and a Korean mother—violates the principles of proportionality and equality. He then persuasively demonstrated the unconstitutionality and illegality of the regulation by analyzing legislative precedents in other countries. In the end, the Supreme Court swiftly revised and implemented the regulation approximately one month after the proposed amendment was submitted. This opened the way for children in multicultural families with foreign mothers to register their full names at birth.
Attorney Kwang-Jae Kim said, “I feel a great sense of fulfillment that children can now fully use their own names,” adding, “I hope this revision to the regulations will make a small but meaningful contribution to gender equality and multicultural social integration.”
