Shin & Kim LLC (“Shin & Kim”), headed by senior managing partner Jong-Han Oh, announced that the firm was selected as a Band 1 Law Firm in 11 out of total 19 practice areas in the Chambers Asia-Pacific Guide 2026.
Shin & Kim was second only to Kim & Chang, which achieved Band 1 in 17 areas. A total of 78 attorneys from Shin & Kim were listed as “Leading Individuals,” once again demonstrating the firm’s high-level legal service capabilities and expertise. The 11 areas Shin & Kim ranked in Band 1 were: △Banking & Finance, △Capital Markets, △Competition/Antitrust, △Corporate/M&A, △Dispute Resolution (IDR), △Dispute Resolution (Litigation), △Employment, △Projects & Energy, △Real Estate, △Tax, and △TMT.
Sejong has solidified its position by being ranked in Band 1 for over five consecutive years in the areas of Finance, Capital Markets, Competition/Antitrust, Corporate/M&A, Projects & Energy, Real Estate, and TMT. Furthermore, the firm made a remarkable leap from Band 2 to Band 1 in Dispute Resolution (Litigation), Tax, and Dispute Resolution (IDR). This advancement is attributed to building a robust team in these areas and consistently achieving outstanding results in complex and challenging cases.
Shin & Kim has significantly strengthened its litigation capabilities this year by recruiting a large number of former judges and prosecutors, including Attorney Chang-Yeong Choi (24th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), a star lawyer in criminal trials, and Yeong-Su Jang, former Daegu High Prosecutors’ Office Chief Prosecutor (24th class), which is now coming to fruition−achieving consecutive successes in major cases, such as winning a lawsuit over KRW 250 billion deposit between Asiana Airlines and Hyundai Development Company and winning an injunction case prohibiting Taekwang Industries from issuing EBs. In addition, the firm is making its mark across various civil and criminal cases, including large-scale management control disputes, such as the shareholder dispute at the Hanmi Pharmaceutical Group, the management control dispute at the Kolmar Group, and the management control dispute at Korea Zinc.
In the Tax practice area, Shin & Kim has strategically recruited Maria Chang, a foreign attorney from Bae, Kim & Lee LLC, Chang-Hee Lee, a tax law authority, and Sung-Bin Lim, the former Seoul Regional Tax Office Commissioner, while establishing numerous leading cases to solidify its standing within the industry. In the Dispute Resolution (IDR) practice area, the firm is seen to have greatly enhanced its capabilities, expertise, and know-how with the successive additions of foreign attorney Robert Wachter, attorney Yeong-Seok Park (34th class of the Judicial Research and Training Institute), and foreign attorney Brandon Bang.
“This represents international recognition of Shin & Kim’s expertise, teamwork, and client-focused problem-solving capabilities across various fields,” said Jong-Han Oh, Shin & Kim’s senior managing partner, “We will continue to strengthen our capabilities to become the best legal partner for our clients in the rapidly changing global environment.”
