Young-Joon Park

Mr. Young-Joon Park is a partner at Shin & Kim. Mr. Park’s main practice areas include M&A, real estate, general corporate affairs, international transactions, E-Discovery and intellectual property rights.
Since 2007, Mr. Park has advised on numerous major M&A and real estate alternative investments transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, real estate funds (REFs), and private equity funds (PEFs). Mr. Park performed E-discovery work and has accumulated extensive experience in a variety of structured transactions both domestically and internationally.
In recent years, Mr. Park has also focused on cross-border transactions, including advising on foreign funds, foreign companies, and real estate investments and has gained a wealth of experience in successfully leading transactions with various structures, including Kakaopay’s acquisition of a U.S. securities firm, acquisition of data centers, apartments, and office buildings in the U.S. and Europe by IGIS, Merits, and LB Asset Management, and registration of foreign funds and investments by overseas asset managers such as Aberdeen, HarbourVest, Partners Group, AEW, and Stepstone. In addition, he has also represented domestic and foreign companies and funds across a variety of industries in friendly mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, venture capital, and formation of Korean subsidiaries. Furthermore, Mr. Park has advised on a number of hostile takeovers and general securities transactions. Mr. Park is also known as an e-discovery expert with strong engineering background and extensive knowledge in the legal IT industry.
Mr. Park graduated from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering of the College of Engineering at the Seoul National University. He holds a Master’s degree (LL.M) from Georgetown Law School.
Mr. Park has written on various legal issues in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, private equity, and real estate and has participated as a speaker or discussant in numerous domestic and international seminars, including a recent seminar on “Risks and Crisis Response Strategies for Foreign Real Estate Investment” at the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, which attracted much attention from domestic and foreign asset managers and institutional investors.

- Advised on share acquisitions and sales, including Tesla’s sale of Maxwell Technology, acquisition of e-payment service providers such as Kakaopay and Chai Holdings, KT’s acquisition of NGeneBio, sale of Outback Steak Korea, Hotel Shilla’s sale of Artisee, sale of Dongyang Cement to Sampyo, and acquisition of CJ Logistics.
- Advised on PEF formations, transaction structures, and investments for a number of domestic and international PE firms, including DST Global, Dominus Investment, J&W Partners, Olympus Capital, and City Venture Capital Investment.
- Advised SK, OCI, and the Daelim Group on corporate restructuring, including spin-offs, mergers, etc.

- Advised on the licensing or registration of the collective investment business for a number of asset management companies, such as IGIS Asset Management and Pinetree Asset Management
- Advised on investment in foreign funds by domestic funds set up by asset management companies, such as Kyobo AXA Investment Managers, LB Asset Management, Kiwoom Asset Management, Heungkuk Asset Management, IGIS Asset Management, Woori Global Asset Management, etc.

- Advised IGIS Asset Management on a number of international real estate investments, including the Zalando logistics center in Poland, the PwC data center in Atlanta, USA, Spring Creek Towers in New York, USA, the Wien Mitte complex in Austria, and the Holiday Inn mezzanine bonds in New York, USA.
- Advised Meritz Asset Management on its investment in office buildings in four countries in Europe (France, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands)
- Advised Millinium Inmark Asset on its investment in the Office Provider building in Vienna, Austria
