Introduction
Mr. Jun Dong Kim is a senior advisor at Shin & Kim.
Prior to joining the firm and for 30 years, Mr. Kim served in various high-ranking positions within the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy (“MOTIE”).
In particular, Mr. Kim led industrial policy-making efforts for a number of sectors, including automotive, shipbuilding, machinery, and bio-health among others.
With respect to the energy sector, Mr. Kim’s experience and expertise ranges from electric power, nuclear energy to renewable energy and overseas resource development. Further, as Deputy Minister of Energy and Resource, he established the Second Master Plan for National Energy and the Sixth Basic Plan on Electricity Demand and Supply.
Regarding trade, Mr. Kim resided in Brussels for three years as a commercial attaché of the Korea Mission to the EU from 2003 to 2006. Upon his return to Korea and to MOTIE in 2006, Mr. Kim took charge of the Korea-US FTA negotiation.
Mr. Kim also held various key positions within the Korean government, including serving as the Deputy Secretary to the President, Spokesperson for MOTIE, and as the Senior Policy Coordinator for the National Assembly of Korea.
From 2015 to 2017, Mr. Kim served as the Secretary General of the National Research Foundation (“NRF”).
Before joining Shin & Kim, Mr. Kim served as the Executive Vice Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry (“KCCI”), which is the largest and oldest business organization in South Korea (composed of 73 regional chambers, representing approximately 200,000 member companies).
