Joohyeon Baik

Dr. Joohyeon Baik is a career diplomat. He joined the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, after majoring in English literature at Seoul national University. He served for the Korean Embassy to the Russian federation and as director for Russia and Central Asia affaires in the MOFA. He was deeply involved in the major projects of economic cooperation between Korea and the Russia and Central Asian countries (construction of the gas pipeline from Russia to Korea, Linkage of TSR and Trans-Korean railroads, Energy project in the Central Asia, K-Medical cooperation with the Central Asian countries). He also served for Korea- US relations, human rights issues of the UN and OECD. He served as Director General for consular affairs and overseas Koreans. He also served as Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan and Consul-General to Houston.
He is Ph.D.(History) of the Russian Diplomatic Academy. He is vice chairman of the "Eurasia21Forum" since 2017 and is helping Korean companies’ investment and trade with the Russia and Central Asian countries. He lectured "Korean diplomacy with US, China, Russia, Japan and the peace of the Korean peninsula' at Yonsei university. He also lectured Laws of the Consular Affairs at Dongguk University, international politics and diplomatic practice at KNDA(Korea National Diplomatic Academy). He wrote several books about Russia, Kazakhstan, and energy issues.
