Introduction
Janelle J. Hyun is a foreign attorney in the firm’s ICT Practice Group. She focuses her practice on data privacy and security, enabling multinational companies to conduct gap assessments and devise compliance plans to minimize risks and ensure that their operations in Korea are compliant with local laws. She has also represented multinational clients in regulatory enforcement actions launched by the KCC and the PIPC involving alleged violations of the Telecommunications Business Act and the
Personal Information Protection Act.
With her expertise in not only the existing legal and regulatory framework affecting e-commerce companies and online platforms but also pending legislative and regulatory discussions, Janelle also advises clients on core issues likely to affect their operations, so that the clients can devise appropriate actions in response to the legislative and regulatory activities. Her counsel also helps clients operating in multiple jurisdictions who require a comprehensive and collaborated approach to cope with newly created obligations.
Prior to joining Shin & Kim, Janelle worked at Morrison & Foerster, where she focused on complex commercial and international litigation and internal investigations. She earned her BA from Waseda University in 2010, graduating with honors, and J.D. from Washington University of St. Louis, School of Law, where she served as an editor at the Journal of Law and Policy and student advocate in various law clinics.
