Introduction

Mr. Yong Joon Cho is currently a senior counsel at Shin & Kim whose main practice focuses on corporate litigation (management disputes, labor, rehabilitation cases), criminal litigation (white collar crimes), unfair competition and trade secrets, logistics, and inter-Korean economic cooperation.

Mr. Cho served as a judge from 1988 to 2010, specifically, as a presiding judge of the Civil and Criminal Divisions of the Seoul Central District Court from 2007 to 2010, a judge of the Civil and Criminal Divisions of the Seoul High Court from 2001 to 2002, a senior presiding judge of the Chuncheon District Court (administrative cases, corporate rehabilitation cases such as management of rehabilitated companies) from 2004 to 2006, and a chief justice of Yeoju Branch of the Suwon District Court.

Having handled a broad range of cases including administrative, construction, and corporate rehabilitation cases and worked on joint research during his long tenure at the Seoul Central District Court and the Seoul High Court, Mr. Cho has a comprehensive understanding of and approach to problem solving . During his tenure as a presiding judge, Mr. Cho also made several in-court presentations on French and European law as the head of the French Judicial Research Group under the Supreme Court’s Judicial Policy Office, and visited French courts as a representative of the Korean courts.

Since joining Shin & Kim LLC, Mr. Cho has successfully led large teams in several large-scale criminal cases such as those involving the chairman of a major conglomerate, and has also been involved in corporate management disputes, labor cases such as the case of KTX female train attendant of Korea Railroad Corporation, corporate advising and disputes in connection with logistics and intermodal transportation, intellectual property rights, etc., as well as corporate rehabilitation proceedings for a large corporate group.

He has also led seminars European Union law based on his extensive knowledge of European Union law, which is a rare experience for the practitioners, , and provided various legal advice to Korean government agencies and companies such as the Ministry of Unification and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport on logistics and inter-Korean exchange and cooperation projects. He is also a railroad expert with extensive experience in consulting and disputes on railroads, including the Najin-Hasan Project and the OSJD Government Agreement.

Mr. Cho has authored numerous articles on legal issues in various fields, including corporate labor and logistics, inter-Korean economic cooperation, etc., and has participated as a speaker or panelist in many domestic and international seminars. He has been recognized as a Recommended Lawyer by the Legal 500 Asia Pacific and other international publications.
