Shin & Kim was named the “Best Firm in South Korea” by Euromoney, a respected magazine focusing on law and finance, at the Asia Women in Business Law Awards 2014 that took place in JW Marriott Hotel in Hong Kong on November 13, 2014.
The award, which was created to encourage women to enter the legal profession, is given to law firms that have made great strides in cultivating women’s leadership and creating a work-friendly environment for women.
Young-Hee Jo and Kelly J. Lee, who were each nominated as candidates for individual awards in the respective fields of Banking & Finance and Corporate Law, attended the ceremony in Hong Kong.
Shin & Kim developed the “Women in Law Mentoring Program” to assist its female lawyers to better develop their capabilities and balance their work and family lives. Among other things, the program provides women who are not able to go abroad for their LLM studies due to family or other personal obligations with the choice to remain in Korea to complete their studies at a local university. Consequently, the ratio of female partners to female associates is 20% - the highest among large law firms - and many of Shin & Kim's female lawyers have taken significant positions in diverse organizations including as Chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce in Korea, Korean Representative of the IBA Young Lawyers' Committee, and Secretary-General of the Korea-Russia Forum for the Future.
