Eun Jo is a partner at Shin & Kim. Her main practice areas are lawsuits and consultations related to intellectual property rights such as copyrights, trademark rights, unfair competition, trade secrets, and non-competes.

Ms. Jo graduated from Seoul National University College of Law and completed the 5th term of the Seoul National University Law school.

Since joining Shin & Kim’s IP Group in 2016, she has handled various litigation and advisory work related to media and content businesses (entertainment, broadcasting, music, movies, dramas, games, internet, etc.). She played a key role in high profile cases that received spotlight from the media, such as lawsuits related to plagiarism of copyrighted works, cases where Shin & Kim represented terrestrial broadcasters and won damage compensation equivalent to re-transmission fees, multi-faceted defense against a claim of infringement of a copyrighted golf course, and cases of successfully overturning the first instance ruling to obtain acquittal in a criminal action against PDs for alleged obstruction of execution of official duties.

Further, she successfully represented clients in a case on cross-border leakage of S Company’s display lamination industrial technology and a case where res judicata and extinctive prescription were recognized in a claim for compensation for employee inventions.

After obtaining an LL.M. degree from Columbia Law School in 2023 and passing the New York State Bar Examination, she recently returned to Shin & Kim from a 10-month secondment to a German law firm. This experience abroad has further sharpened her keen sense in resolving issues related to various license agreements, international investment agreements, clients’ entry into overseas markets, and other related disputes.

Ms. Jo wishes to be an attorney that is as good as her name means. She sincerely stands side by side with clients and strives to solve the issues at hand for the best of her clients.

• Represented and advised clients in numerous negotiations and disputes between the management company and the artist, including claims for penalties related to the exclusive contract, and disputes over the validity of the exclusive contract (seasoned experience in representing both the entertainment companies’ side and the artists’ side).
• Advised on resolution of various civil and criminal disputes over defamation, advertising contracts, publicity rights, etc. for multiple celebrities, influencers, and agencies.
• Advised domestic and overseas platforms on global investment contracts, license agreements, etc. for content such as dramas and movies.
