Announcement of New Members

Shin & Kim is pleased to announce that Jae-Yun Yun, former Chief Judge of the Chuncheon District Court, has joined the firm as of March 5, 2012. Byung Han Lee, former Head Judge of the Wonju Branch of the Chuncheon District Court, and Taek-Rim Oh, former Deputy Chief Prosecutor of the Southern Seoul District Public Prosecutors’ Office, have also joined the firm. We welcome these new members to the firm, and look forward to the added expertise and strength they will bring to the firm’s litigation practice.

 

Jae-Yun Yun

 

Jae-Yun Yun, born in Suwon, Gyeonggi-do, is a graduate of Gyeonggi High School and Seoul National University (College of Law). Mr. Yun wrote and passed the 21st Judicial Examination in 1979 and has served as a Judge at various courts including the Suwon District Court, Seoul Family Court, Seoul District Court, Southern Seoul District Court, Incheon District Court (as Presiding Judge), Busan District Court and the Seoul High Court (as Presiding Judge). He was also a research fellow at Washington State University; Director General for Judicial Research at the National Court of Administration; Chairperson of the Central Land Tribunal; and Chief Judge of the Chuncheon District Court.

 

Mr. Yun is a renowned expert in construction law and is the author of Laws Related to Construction Disputes: Issues in Construction Disputes and Litigation Practice. In addition, his expertise encompasses media laws, and he is the author of Media Disputes and Law: Issues and Precedents with Focus on Media Dispute Arbitration Cases, for which he received a prestigious media law award from the Korean Society of Media Law, Ethics and Policy Research. He has also contributed to numerous newspapers and magazines and published a collection of essays entitled Cry With Those Crying in 2010. He continues to write columns for the Joongang Sunday.

 

Byung Han Lee

 

Byung Han Lee, born in Gyeongju, Gyeongsangbuk-do, is a graduate of Pohang High School and Seoul National University (Department of Sociology). Mr. Lee wrote and passed the 34th Judicial Examination in 1992 and has served as a Judge at various courts including the Seoul District Court Southern Branch, Seoul District Court, Jeju District Court and the Seoul High Court. He also served the Supreme Court as a Judicial Researcher and the Chuncheon District Court Wonju Branch as the Head Judge of the Branch.  Mr. Lee brings added expertise and strength to the firm’s professional legal services in the litigation of civil, criminal, administrative and labor matters.

 

Taek-Rim Oh

 

Taek-Rim Oh is a graduate of Whimoon High School and Seoul National University (College of Law). Mr. Oh wrote and passed the 37th Judicial Examination in 1995 and has served as a public prosecutor at the Seoul District Prosecutors’ Office, Chuncheon District Prosecutors’ Office Wonju Branch and the Pusan District Prosecutors’ Office. He also served the Supreme Prosecutor’s Office as a Prosecution Research Officer and the Southern Seoul District Public Prosecutors’ Office as the Deputy Chief Prosecutor. As a prosecutor, Mr. Oh has conducted numerous investigations and has prosecuted suspects in numerous criminal trials for white collar crimes, in particular, bribery, corporate crimes, securities fraud and accounting fraud. His expertise also includes advising on legal issues relating to broadcasting, telecommunications and information technology, from when he was dispatched as a legal advisor to the Broadcasting and Communications Commission. He is also experienced with FCPA/Internal Investigations, and the firm looks forward to the added expertise and strength Mr. Oh will bring to the firm’s professional legal services in all of the foregoing areas of practice.
