Seminar on Strategy for Korea-EU FTA

Shin & Kim and the Korea International Trade Association held a seminar on potential issues that may arise after the Korea-EU FTA takes effect on an industry basis, including electricity and electronics and automobiles, and the countermeasures for such issues, in the 51st floor conference room of COEX on September 19, 2010. At the seminar, Korean and EU lawyers dealt with potential issues related to the Korea-EU FTA and countermeasures as well as verification procedures of origin and related cautions.

 

Managing Partner Doo-Sik Kim at Shin & Kim gave a presentation on potential issues for the Korea-EU FTA and countermeasures, which included a detailed introduction of the Korea-EU FTA by chapter for better understanding of working-level staffs in the industries affected by the Korea-EU FTA. He also expressed his opinion on the need of legislation for the implementation of the Korea-EU FTA, in accordance with Article 6-1 of the Constitution that any treaty executed and promulgated pursuant to the Constitution and any generally approved international law shall have the same effect as any domestic law. Foreign Legal Consultant Young Jae Cho also gave a presentation on resolutions in each stage of the Korea-EU FTA disputes and their characteristics, and explained in detail the solutions to any overlapping jurisdictions by two or more dispute resolution forums, as well as mediation mechanism for non-tariff measures.
