Attorney Jong Chae Jung of Shin & Kim was recently re-appointed as an advisor to the Professionals Convention for Improvement of International Tax Laws of the National Tax Service for 2014, following his appointment in 2013. As the advisor to the Professionals Convention, Mr. Jung will contribute his expertise to the review of proposed tax laws to improve unreasonable taxation standards and laws in the context of international tax laws, and upon determination of which proposed tax laws would best serve to improve existing laws, to make recommendations to the Ministry of Strategy and Finance to adopt such proposed laws.
In addition, Mr. Jung was appointed as a member of the Disciplinary Committee of the Jungbu Regional Tax Office for a term of three years from February, 2014. The Jungbu Regional Tax Office has jurisdiction over metropolitan areas outside the city of Seoul and Gangwon Province, and there are 29 tax offices under its authority. Composed of the Director of the Jungbu Regional Tax Office who will serve as the chairman of the Committee, three director-level internal members and three outside members, the Disciplinary Committee of the Jungbu Regional Tax Office will make determinations on disciplinary actions and rewards and punishments for public officials of the relevant tax offices.
After passing the 41st Higher Civil Service Examination, Mr. Jung served as a deputy director at the Tax Collection Division of the National Tax Service. Based on his expertise in the area of tax administration, Mr. Jung advises on taxation issues and defense strategies for tax investigations and tax appeals. Apart from advising corporate clients, Mr. Jung has served with the National Tax Service as an expert advisor for the improvement of international taxation, as a member of the Inheritance Tax and Gift Tax Reorganization Committee of the Ministry of Strategy and Finance, as a member of the Taxation Handbook Publication Committee of the Korean Bar Association, and as a standing director of the Korean Academic Society of Taxation.
