On November 11, 2013, Shin & Kim co-hosted a seminar entitled “Introduction to Middle-East Projects and Dispute Resolution Strategies” with the Federation of Korean Industries and Shearman & Sterling LLP.
The seminar’s agenda included (i) Middle East power projects and project finance in the first session, (ii) project finance and bankability issues in the second session, and (iii) Middle East construction and energy project disputes and dispute resolution strategies in the last session.
In recent years, dispute-related risks have received much attention from Korean construction companies that have entered into the Middle Eastern market. The seminar was thus held to present more accurate and systematic legal guidelines for dispute resolution for Korean companies doing business in the Middle East. The seminar was touted as highly informative and valuable to Korean companies that are currently exploring opportunities in the Middle East, as it focused on a wide range of commercial and legal issues prevalent from the initial entry phase until the dispute resolution phase, by illustrating unique characteristics and examples of Middle East projects.
