Mr. Taihyung Kim is a partner at Shin & Kim, mainly practicing in the areas of corporate criminal law, cross-border criminal matters, and defense industry-related issues.
Mr. Kim is a former prosecutor with approximately 17 years of experience, having served at various prosecutorial offices—including the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office, the Busan District Prosecutors’ Office, the Incheon District Prosecutors’ Office, the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office, and the Seosan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors’ Office—as well as at the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Defense Acquisition Program Administration. During his time working in the major investigative divisions of the Seoul and Busan District Prosecutors’ Offices, he handled high-profile white-collar crime cases involving embezzlement and breach of trust, as well as cases involving violations of the Customs Act, the Foreign Exchange Transactions Act and the Foreign Trade Act, and narcotics offences.
While working at the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, he oversaw the government’s response to the National Assembly on matters relating to prosecutorial investigations, handled special pardons and parole, and managed extradition and mutual legal assistance in major criminal cases. He was also in charge of responding to investor-state dispute settlement (ISDS) cases filed against the Republic of Korea by corporations such as Companies L and E. In addition, at the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA), he served as Director of Legal Litigation and Director of Supervision and Support, where he provided legal advice on defense industry-related matters and oversaw related litigation.
Drawing on his diverse experience and expertise, he offers comprehensive and in-depth legal services that address a range of issues arising from domestic and international corporate activities.
