Attorney Daeyong Baek received a commendation from the Minister of Public Administration and Security on December 31, 2012, in recognition of his significant contributions to the protection of personal information. To add to the honor, Mr. Baek was the only attorney named among the award recipients, which consisted of individuals, central government employees, local governments and civic groups.

Mr. Baek is a recognized expert in the laws on protection of personal information, having advised government ministries and administrations on the detailed provisions of laws such as the Act on Promotion of Use of Information Communication Networks and Protection of Information.  He was appointed as an advisor on the interpretation of laws on protection of personal information at the Ministry of Public Administration and Security during the process of enactment and amendment of such laws, actively advising the Ministry on the interpretation of various legal issues.

Mr. Baek also serves as an advisor on the Administrative Measures Advisory Committee, providing advice on the legitimacy and appropriateness of administrative measures and dispositions ordered against violators of personal information protection laws. In addition, Mr. Baek serves as an expert advisor on the Committee for Mediation of Disputes over Personal Information of the Ministry of Public Administration and Security – a quasi-judicial body playing the role of mediator between the parties to a dispute over personal information.
