Young-Key Hwang appointed as New Chairman of the Korea-America Association

Mr. Young-Key Hwang, former Chairman of the Korea Financial Investment Association (“KOFIA”), was appointed as the new Chairman of Korea-America Association (“KAA”).

On February 19, 2020, the KAA held its annual meeting at the Sejong Hotel in Seoul, where Mr. Hwang was elected to serve a three-year term as its chairman.

In speaking about his appointment, Mr. Hwang said: “I will do my best to engage the private sector in public diplomacy as we collectively work towards overcoming challenges in the ROK-U.S. relations.” Mr. Hwang also noted that he will do his utmost to proactively “enable friendly cooperation and partnership … [through] new projects and initiatives, which will help to improve mutual understanding between the two countries.”

Mr. Hwang is a well-known figure in the Korean financial industry. Among his senior management roles include serving as the Chairman of KB Financial Group and of Woori Financial Group. He also held three CEO positions - Samsung Investment Trust Management, Samsung Securities, and Woori Bank. In addition, Mr. Hwang served as the Strategic Planning Office Chief of Staff at Samsung Life Insurance, and as a non-standing director of KorAm Bank.

About the Korea-America Association:

Founded in 1963, the KAA is a private organization engaged in various projects to promote cultural exchange and to bolster cooperation between South Korea and the United States.

These initiatives include hosting seminars on current issues – ranging from politics and economy to social and cultural issues – as well as various events to promote bilateral friendship between the two countries.
