Most notably, Mr. Cheong, who passed the 35th National Judicial Examination, began his career as a judge advocate and has since accumulated nearly 29 years of experience at leading law firms like Kim & Chang His expertise spans financial regulation, capital markets, derivatives trading, data protection, and digital finance. Renowned for his adeptness in defending domestic and international financial institutions, he has successfully managed complex legal disputes and regulatory challenges.
In addition to his legal practice, Mr Cheong has played a key role in the development of digital finance initiatives such as MyData and MyPayment, earning him the Presidential Commendation for Financial Innovation in 2018. He has provided advisory services to various Korean government agencies, including the Financial Services Commission and the Personal Information Protection Commission. Additionally, Mr. Cheong has contributed significantly to academia as a leading theorist in corporate finance and data protection law.
In addition, Shin & Kim has strengthened its Financial Regulation Group by recruiting several notable experts. Attorney Young-jin Kim (passed the 1st Bar Examination), an experienced expert in IT-related regulation of financial companies, worked as a former official of the Electronic Financial Services Division and Financial Data Policy Division of the Financial Services Commission. Attorney Ryon-ho Kang (passed the 3rd Bar Examination) brings significant expertise in financial regulation, licensing, sanctions, and digital finance, having served as an officer at the Financial Services Commission, and the Financial Intelligence Unit, and as a legislative officer at the National Assembly Secretariat. Attorney Sung-kuk Choi (passed the 3rd Bar Examination), with experience at top global consulting firms such as PwC Consulting, has advised major financial institutions and large corporations, further enhancing the group's capabilities.
Also joining the Practice Group are: advisor Ji-won Jung, who served as chairman of the Korea Exchange, president of the Korea Securities Finance Corporation, and chairman of the General Insurance Association of Korea; advisor Joo-hwan Lee, who has over a decade of experience in IT and digital affairs at Hana Financial Group, and has served as Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) following his tenure at POSCO ICT and Samsung SDS; advisor Jeongsang Jang, who worked at Kyobo Life Insurance and the Financial Supervisory Service for 29 years, offering unparalleled expertise in financial company IT systems, inspections, and sanctions; and advisor Donghyun Park, known for his distinctive expertise in financial regulation, based on his experience at Samil PwC Accountings, the Financial Supervisory Service, the Financial Services Commission, and the Joint Investigation Team for Financial and Securities Crimes.
