Chang-Won Jeong

Partner
Introduction

Mr. Chang-Won Jeong is a partner of Shin & Kim. Mr. Jeong specializes in litigation and advice for intellectual property, trade secret, IT (Information Technology), and technologies.

Before being admitted to the Korean bar, Mr. Jeong was a qualified patent attorney with a wide range of experiences with large corporations such as Samsung, LG, and Hyundai Mobis in domestic and overseas patent applications and registrations.

Mr. Jeong worked as a lawyer for Shin & Kim based on his experience as a patent attorney, and successfully carried out patent infringement disputes, trade secret infringement disputes, and disputes over defects related to advanced technology such as next-generation card systems and plant facilities. He also provided advice on various deals that focus on the signing of joint technology development contracts and the transfer of IP and technology.

In addition, Mr. Jeong represented the injured company in the cases of major technology leaks that gained media attention (e.g., the case of overseas leakage of super-critical semiconductor cleaning equipment technology and the case of overseas outflow of lamination equipment technology) and won the cases, and in the case of prohibition of employee transfer for an employee who moved to Micron in the United States and prohibition of employee transfer for an employee who moved to a Chinese display company, he was the first in Korea to obtain an injunction ruling. Mr. Jeong was involved in the first domestic case (Seoul Central District Court 2014GaHap526972) regarding whether the original drug price reduction due to the release of a generic drug is subject to patent infringement and developed a new legal principle. Further, he led the en banc decision 2011Mo1839 by the Supreme Court, dated July 16, 2015, which provided a principled standard for determining whether a series of acts such as seizure, imaging, search, and reproduction of storage media by the prosecution were unlawful, highlighting his strength in areas where technology and legal principles overlap.
