On March 6, 2008, SHIN & KIM was awarded the “Asian Equity Deal of the Year 2008” by International Financial Law Review (IFLR) in connection with Shin & Kim’s representation of Samsung Card and their initial public offering. The IFLR is a renowned financial law magazine affiliated with “Euromoney.”
Asian Awards by IFLR is one of the most reputed awards for law firms practicing in Asia. Since 2001, SHIN & KIM has been the recipient of various accolades from IFLR in various practice areas. The IPO of Samsung Card was the only Korea deal awarded by IFLR this year.
It is the second award from IFLR after Shin & Kim was recognized with the Asian Equity of the Year 2005 for “the concurrent listing of LG Phillips LCD on KRX and NYSE.” This marks the recognition that Shin & Kim is a leading law firm for high value and sophisticated transactions in the Korean capital market.
Samsung Card’s IPO is the first in its kind in which domestic and overseas marketing were concurrently conducted for the shares of a Korean company. It is an important development in that it introduced a new mechanism that saves an issuer significant costs required for issuance and maintenance of stock listing.
The IPO of Samsung Card was advised by Messrs. Woong-Soon Song, Jong Ho Song, and Sang Hyun Lee of Shin & Kim.
SHIN & KIM was also nominated for three other deals in IFLR’s Asia Awards 2008. The nominated deals and the SHIN & KIM lawyers therein were as follows:
- Debt and equity linked KEXIM Mexico Peso bond offering: Byoung Seon Choi
- Securitization KAL Passenger Ticket: Jong-Goo Yi, Kyung Hwa Moon
