Gaming, Media and Sports
overview
As digital technologies continue to evolve and content distribution channels become increasingly diversified, the intellectual property landscape and business structures of the gaming, media, and sports industries are undergoing rapid transformation. New legal issues are emerging across a wide range of areas, including content creation and distribution, publishing and licensing, broadcasting and digital media rights, and athlete and agent agreements, while complex disputes involving domestic and international businesses, platforms, and other stakeholders are also increasing. Against this backdrop, it is essential to understand the characteristics of each industry, the rights associated with content, and relevant transaction structures, and to proactively address legal risks across all aspects of the business.
Drawing on its deep understanding of the characteristics and business structures of each industry, Shin & Kim’s Intellectual Property Practice Group advises on and represents clients in a broad range of matters across the gaming, media, and sports industries.

In the media industry, the IP Group advises on and represents clients in copyright and content transmission disputes involving broadcasting and digital content, as well as broadcasting rights and digital media rights agreements and disputes relating to domestic and international sports content.
In the sports industry, the IP Group advises on contracts and represents clients in disputes relating to broadcasting and media rights for international sporting events, such as the FIFA World Cup and the Olympic Games, as well as professional sports; the operation of leagues, clubs, and sports associations and their contractual relationships; athlete, coach, agent, and management agreements; and disputes concerning disciplinary actions, eligibility, and player registration.
